FICTION
“…now that we have seen each other," said the
Unicorn, "if you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you…”
-
Lewis
Carroll
There
are times when I think fiction is the only way of telling the truth. It protects the innocent, not to mention the writer.
I have completed several novels and a novella. Short selections of some of them can be accessed with the links below.
Audrey:
A Book of Love tells the story of young poet who falls in love with an older woman and
a young man simultaneously.
Soleil
Madera is a fairytale with a
feminist slant about a movie star’s fight for her own identity.
The
Beauty—Only Sleeping is a
coming of age story about a woman who wants to be an artist, but is encouraged
to become something else instead.
Gold
and Poison is a novella about
the obscure Nordic goddess Sigyn, married to the far better known trickster god
Loki.
In the spring of 2006 I completed my pro-peace
novel Parcival,
which retells the quest for the holy grail in a contemporary setting from the
point of view of women experiencing the world of war and other competitive
heroics.
The quest for a publisher appears to be as complicated as Parcival's quest for
the holy grail. "The Stain," an excerpt of Parcival, was
published by
Her Circle (http://www.hercircleezine.com)
for Winter 2006-2007 publication.
Sometimes
I work on short stories, especially when my earning a living life-style permits
only limited concentration. My
favorite character appearing in my short fiction for some time was a gently
bewildered unicorn. The
Hunter and the Unicorn
was the first of this series of stories. It
won 6th place in the 2003 New Century Writers short fiction contest.
